HERE are some simple tasks we can all do to help the elderly in winter.
- Lend a hand in filling in benefit claim forms - there’s nothing to lose, but lots to gain if someone is eligible.
- Look around you - are milk bottles piling up, or newspapers sticking out of letterboxes? If so, your elderly neighbour could be in trouble.
- In cold weather, ensure paths, doorsteps and pavements around an older person’s house are clear and salted - falls can be fatal.
- Most important of all - be a good friend and encourage your neighbour to tell you what their needs are. Every person is different.
