An Indian restaurant in Baxenden is in the running for the Lancashire Telegraph’s Best Curry House competition and the owner says its food and customer service cannot be rivalled.

Our readers have nominated Abdullah’s, in Blackburn Road, as one of the best curry houses in East Lancashire.

Owner, Mohammed Abdullah, said he is happy with the nomination.

“We stand out because of the personal service we provide. We have known many of our customers for a really long time. We have a lot of customers, from multiple generations.

“We are also praised for our food.”

Originally, it stood as a pub called the Rising Bridge Inn. In 2011, it opened as The Spice Room before being taken over by Mohammed and rebranded to Abdullah's in 2020.

Since then, the restaurant has gone from strength to strength and has won a number of awards, including Curry Restaurant of the Year at the English Curry Awards and South Asian Restaurant of the Year at the Northern Enterprise Awards.

The food itself is Bangladeshi and Indian inspired “with a touch of British influence”.

Mohammed said: “When we won the curry award people came from all over to try us out so recognition like this does give us some recognition and gives a boost for business.”

Mohammed said it would “mean so much” to the team if Abdullah’s won the Best Curry House competition.

“It would mean so much for us to win,” he said. “The customer recognition would be good and it would also give staff some motivation.

“With the cost of living crisis, a competition win like this would give us a morale boost.

“I want to thank everyone who has nominated us and who has voted for us.”

The Best Curry Houses competition asked readers to nominate their favourite establishments for the much-loved cuisine, and you didn’t disappoint, with nominations flying in.

We have collated the votes and whittled them down to a top 10 that received the most nominations and have made the final shortlist.

Over the coming days, readers will be able to vote for their favourite restaurants by picking up a paper copy of the Lancashire Telegraph, with the winner announced next month.

Readers can vote for the ‘Best Curry House 2024’ by picking up copies of the Lancashire Telegraph between Monday, October 28 and Saturday, November 9.
