A SAFETY message has been issued after a child was knocked over running to buy an ice cream.
Six-year-old Idrif Khan broke his leg after he was in collision with a car in James Street, Burnley, at 3.30pm yesterday.
He had run out after seeing an ice cream van approaching and was struck a glancing blow by a passing car.
PC Richard Kemp, from the road policing unit, said: “He has broken his tibia and fibula but doesn’t need an operation, which is good news.
“We believe he just ran out into the street but would appeal for any witnesses to get in touch.
“There have been a number of similar incidents recently with summer approaching.
“I would urge all drivers to be extra vigilant around ice creams vans and anywhere children could dash into the road unexpectedly.”
Anyone with information should call the road policing unit on 01282 472486.
