HARDCORE drinkers in Burnley have been warned there is no place at the inn for troublemakers.
Two drinkers have recently been barred from licensed premises in the west of the borough for 12 months under a new pub watch scheme.
Publicans and police are warning that various crackdowns will take place in the Lowerhouse, Gannow, Ightenhill and Rosegrove areas in the coming months.
Licensees have already been given special drug detection kits, which include ultra-violet lights and forensic wipes, to check if customers are using illegal substances on their premises.
John Yardley, Burnley licensing enforcement officer, said: ‘Pub watches have a significant impact on reducing violent and anti-social behaviour towards customers and staff in licensed premises.
“People want to enjoy their night out in a safe and friendly environment which is what pub watch helps to achieve.”
Lists of troublemakers are posted in member pubs in Nelson, Colne and Barnoldswick, with dozens currently the subject of lifetime bans.
Under the new Burnley scheme, like others, landlords meet regularly to determine punishments after incidents at local pubs.
Pubs covered by the scheme include Bentley Wood Farm, Dickie Pinks, Dugdale Arms, Gannow Wharf, George IV, Ighten Leigh Social Club, Ightenmount Bowling Club, The Junction, The Lane Ends, Lowerhouse Mill Social Club, Malt Shovel, Railway Hotel, Rosegrove Railway Club, Rosegrove Unity Club and Sycamore Farm.
