A CONMAN stole more than £1,000 from the home of an elderly couple in the latest distraction burglary in Burnley.
The pair, in their 80s, were told by a man to check for a gas leak, who then took two handbags and £1,200 from the front room of the property in Lyndhurst Road between 9pm and 9.20pm on Saturday.
The man is described as white, around 5ft 7ins, in his mid 30s and with greasy hair.
He was wearing a dark-coloured baseball cap, tracksuit bottoms with a fluorescent stripe and a jumper.
The incident follows similar distraction burglaries in the Daneshouse area.
Sgt Martin Storey, from Burnley police, urged residents to look out for elderly neighbours and said householders should always ask callers for ID.
Anyone with information should contact police on 01282 425001 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
