A 10-YEAR-old boy has been left with severe injuries after the family dog mauled his face.
Callum Chippendale was today described as 'poorly' in hospital after being attacked in the house in Shale Street, Gannow, Burnley, at 11.20pm last night.
Police said he was expected to undergo surgery for "severe" facial injuries caused by the dog, which is believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross.
Police said Callum was taken to the Urgent Care Unit at Burnley General Hospital, where he remains with his family at his bedside.
The dog was removed from the scene at the family's request but has not been destroyed.
Callum's parents are due to be questioned by police in a bid to discover what happened.
A police spokesman said: "We received a report to say a 10-year-old boy had been brought into the unit with nasty injuries to the face.
"Police discovered that the family pet, a Staffordshire bull terrier cross had attacked the child causing serious injuries to the face.
"Police attended the address along with other officers and local kennel staff in order to remove the beast from the address at the request of the family.
"It was removed and taken away and further inquiries will be made into the incident."
It is not thought the animal was of a breed on the Dangerous Dogs list.
