BREWERY bosses have found a recipe for success for one of East Lancashire’s most successful club cricketers which should bowl everyone in the pavilion over.

When Chris Bleazard passed the 15,000-run mark, for Lowerhouse CC, club officials were initially stumped over how to celebrate the milestone.

So chairman Stan Heaton approached Moorhouse’s Brewery in Burnley and a short while later ‘Bleazard’s Brilliance’, a light sessional beer, came into being.

Chris, a maths teacher at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form, is only the third Lancashire League to notch up 15,000, after Haslingden’s Mike Ingham, of Haslingden, and Dave Pearson, from East Lancs CC.

And after the ale’s grand unveiling modest Chris, 46, from Ightenhill, was able to try out his own tipple in the Lowerhouse clubhouse.

“I got a telephone call saying that there was a big promotion on at the club and I needed to be there for training half an hour earlier than normal,” he said.

“It was a complete surprise and a really nice think for Stan and the committee to arrange.”

David Grant, Moorhouse’s managing director, said: “The club committee asked us if we could do something to recognise the achievement, and we were happy to oblige.

“He’s only the third man in Lancashire League history to achieve 15,000 runs. The beer is a blend of three parts Premier and one part Pendle Witch.

“It is a light sessional beer which we hope will continue to sell well throughout the year at the club.”
