A HEADTEACHER is planning to put her feet up when she retires this summer - almost 2,500 metres up above sea level.
Glenys Lees will retire from Roe Lee Park Primary School, Blackburn, this month, and will then start preparing for a trek to Peru to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.
She will spend six days camping and trekking at high altitude to reach Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, and hopes to raise over £3,000.
"Being head of Roe Lee has filled so much of my life over the last 10 years, that I decided I needed to do something special to mark this life-changing event," said Glenys, who will fly out to Cusco, Peru, in September.
"The camping and facilities will be basic, which will be a challenge, but I know this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Glenys has already started training for the trip and has plans to experience high altitude walking in the Dolomites, Italy, and camping in the Lake District before she goes. She has already raised £2,200 with more money pledged and some fund-raising events still to be held.
Anyone wanting to support her can send cheques made out to Breast Cancer Care to Roe Lee Park Primary School, Emerald Avenue, Blackburn, BB1 9RP.
