A MURDER suspect went on the run for 15 days using cash given to him by his uncle, a jury has been told.
Naeem Butt, 38, of Johnston Street, is on trial for allegedly stabbing his wife’s lover to death in a Blackburn alleyway last June.
Saheel Ahmed, 24, had been having a secret affair with Butt’s estranged wife and mother of their two children, Shakra Ali, 25.
The prosecution alleged that skilled butcher Butt knifed Mr Ahmed to death when he found out about the relationship. Butt denies murder.
Preston Crown Court heard that the defendant rang his uncle Mohammed Butt from Manchester Piccadilly railway station and asked him to bring his passport and a ‘large sum of cash’.
They met and Butt was then driven to Manchester Airport at 5am, with Butt then returning to the railway station and travelling to Edinburgh by train.
The court heard he the went on a taxi journey to Glasgow and back. He was arrested on July 7 in Drummond Street, Edinburgh.
