A FATHER who attacked his wife partly in front of two of their children has been sent on a domestic violence programme.
Burnley Magistrates heard how Anthony Craig Brewster, 38, struck after a row when his wife challenged him over where he had been until 4.30am.
Brewster, who had been drinking heavily at a fireworks party the day before, had grabbed Lisa, his wife of 11 years, thrown her on the settee, punched her, dragged her to the door, spat at her and slapped her.
She was extremely upset, scared and was disgusted that the defendant had set about her in front of the children.
Brewster, whose actions have possibly brought the relationship to an end, left the victim with sore ribs that hurt her when she breathed.
She was also left shaken up and feeling numb.
The defendant, of Louvaine Street, Barnoldswick, had admitted assault by beating on November 7.
The bench, who told him he could have been sent to jail, gave him a 24 month community order, with supervision.
He must pay £200 compensation and £85 costs.
Glen Smith, for the defendant, said he felt he had let his family down.
