THE swimming pool at Shadsworth Leisure Centre, Blackburn, is set to be reopened during the evening.
Campaigners fighting to protect the popular facility were last night told the pool could be opened from 4pm weekdays after Labour, led by Coun Kate Hollern, regained control of the council.
A meeting was held at the centre, where the new administration outlined its plans, which also include expanding the hours the ‘dry’ facilities at the leisure centre are open.
The opening plans for the pool are not expected to include weekends.
The future looked bleak for the centre when the council’s previous ruling coalition outlined plans to close it to cut costs.
But Labour seized power and promised to reopen it, as well as restore grants to community centres and funding for Police Community Support Officers.
