TIGHTER security, earlier closing times and a drinking ban made this year’s Witton Park Easter Fair a success, according to police.
Following residents’ and fairgoers’ concerns last year, extra police patrols were at the site at peak times, equipped with body-worn CCTV cameras.
To crack down on anti-social behaviour, Blackburn with Darwen Council imposed an 8pm finish time, on-site security guards, and a total alcohol ban.
Just one arrest was made at the event, which ran from Thursday, April 1, to Sunday April 11.
A 16-year-old boy from Blackburn was charged with failing to comply with a direction to leave notice.
PC Gary Hennighan, community beat manager for Revidge and Corporation Park, said: “There was a good vibe throughout the fair and it was good to see so many families having fun in the good weather.
“One or two young people came down with the intention of causing disorder on a couple of nights, but they were dealt with robustly and banned from the park, using new powers, for up to 48 hours before anything could happen.
“One lad thought it would be clever to come back, but he was arrested and charged.
"I wish to thank the fair staff and all the fairgoers for making it a good family event.”
