SIX children were ‘rescued’ by police and council officers as part of an initiative to keep young people safe in Blackburn.
The Operation Staysafe patrols took place between 6pm and midnight in the Little Harwood and Daisyfield areas of the town, with officers identifying youngsters who may be drawn into crime.
Six children aged between eight and 16 were taken to the Bangor Street community centre, which has been designated a ‘safe place’.
They had been caught running between parked cars and drinking alcohol.
Council officers offered the youngsters and their parents support through the children’s services department.
Police spoke to 87 children and also arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of cannabis possession.
He was bailed to they can make further enquiries.
Insp Muz Patala, who led the operation, said: “Once again, we have protected these young people and prevented them from coming to any potential harm.
“Operation Staysafe aims to protect children at risk and prevent them from situations where they are likely to commit a crime or become a victim of crime while reminding parents to think carefully about their responsibilities.”
