A 26-YEAR-OLD man was today found unconscious in the street with serious injuries to his face.
The man was discovered covered in blood in Hall Street in the Infirmary area of Blackburn, after being attacked in an alleyway at around 1.45am.
The severe assault had left him with a fractured jaw and a fractured nose.
The victim, who is from Blackburn, also lost a number of his lower teeth in the attack.
An ambulance was initially called to the scene and they alerted police.
The victim, who was said to be 'bleeding heavily', was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he has regained consciousness.
Officers are hoping to question him in a bid find out what happened.
Inquiries into what happened are being undertaken by CID officers and the scene of the attack was today cordoned off by police.
After securing the area, Crime Scene Investigators scoured the site looking for forensic evidence to help them with the investigation.
Police are also appealing for information from anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Andy Cribbin, at Blackburn CID, said: "This was an attack in the early hours of the morning which left the man in question with significant facial injuries.
"I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who witnessed anything unusual to get in touch with us."
