A TEENAGER was dragged into an alley and attacked by six masked men with a baseball bat as he walked down the street, police said.
The incident, near the junction of Altom Street and Blackburn Street, in Shear Brow, Blackburn, happened late on Friday night.
Police said the 18-year-old had been visiting friends in Whalley Street, nearby and was on his way home when he was attacked by the gang.
He was punched repeatedly around the head and police said they believe a baseball bat was used to hit him around the legs.
They then stole his mobile phone before making off on foot.
Police said the men were all wearing dark clothing and all had some sort of mask obscuring their faces.
The 18-year-old, who lives locally, is being treated in Royal Blackburn Hospital for his injuries.
Detective Sergeant Duncan Whitehead, of Blackburn CID, said: "The male was subjected to an assault but fortunately his injuries are not that serious.
“We have done quite a bit of work in the area over the weekend but would urge anyone with any information to come forward and let us know what they have seen or heard."
Witnesses or anyone with any information about the attack, which took place at around 8pm, should contact police on 08451 25 35 45.
