INFORMATION is being sought by council officials about a mystery smash which caused about £10,000 worth of damage to a local park.
A 15 metre stretch of railings and perimeter wall was damaged over the weekend at Corporation Park, Blackburn.
Park officials believe a large vehicle skidded on the road, mounted the pavement and collided with the two feet high wall, pushing off the coping stones and the railings set into them.
Coun Michael Law-Riding, executive member for leisure and culture for the council, said: “If anyone saw the incident, or anyone acting suspiciously, we would appreciate them contacting us, in confidence.
“Then we can pursue the matter and hopefully catch the people who carried out this mindless act.”
The accident happened in West Park Road sometime over the weekend.
It was discovered when workers returned on Monday after the Christmas break.
Anyone with information should contact Blackburn with Darwen Council’s environment department on (01254) 585084.
