A MANCHESTER United fan who tried to enter Ewood Park while drunk paid a high price for refusing to walk away when stewards refused to let him in.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Dean Probert was arrested and after being bailed had to pay £150 for a taxi to his home in Worcester.

When he attended court he had the expense of travelling and had to take a day off from his work as a self-employed builder.

Blackburn magistrates fined him £400 with £80 costs and imposed a football banning order for three years on the season ticket holder.

Probert, 41, of Isaac Walk, pleaded guilty to attempting to enter a designated sports ground while drunk.

John Wood, prosecuting, said Probert had been cautioned for the same offence at Aston Villa in January and pleaded guilty to the offence at Newcastle in March.

Stephen Barker, defending, said on each occasion it had been a Saturday tea time kick-off and Probert had more time to drink before the game.
