TWO men who stole lead from the roof of Witton Park High School stashed their haul in a nearby wheelie bin.
Blackburn magistrates heard that when they went to collect their "loot" several hours later they were spotted and reported to the police.
Christopher George Jamison, 18, of Shakespeare Way, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to theft. He was ordered to do 80 hours unpaid work and pay £150 compensation and £60 costs.
Mr Jonathan Taylor, defending, said that his client had been persuaded to take part by an older man.
"He is old enough and wise enough to know better and he should have said no," said Mr Taylor.
"Unfortunately he was experiencing money diffic-ulties at the time and fell to temptation."
