Three men have appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with burglary after attempting to steal from a cash machine outside the McDonalds fast food outlet at Ewood.

The court heard that a "serious" attempt had been made to break into the ATM using power tools, including an angle grinder, plugged into a power point inside the unit housing the machine.

The police helicopter was mobilised after the alarm went off at 3.20am on Monday and the three defendants were arrested in the vicinity.

Suhel Salejee, 29, and Mastin Dad, 36, both of London, and Mark Pettigrew, 23, of Boreham Wood, Hertfordshire, were all remanded in custody.
