THE "self belief and determination" of students at Blackburn's Beardwood School was celebrated at its prize night.
Joined by special guests, Blackburn Rovers players Peter Enckelman and Eddie Nolan, parents and governors, headteacher Ruby Hussain paid tribute last night to the returning Year 11 students, who achieved record GCSE results for the school.
Welcoming the audience to the Preston New Road school, Mrs Hussain also lauded the achievements of staff and support of parents, all of which contributed to the school's glowing Ofsted report last month.
She said: "Anyone who knows anything about Beardwood knows we always set ourselves challenging targets and goals. We aim high. That self-belief and determination pays off annually. As a result our youngsters achieve well above their capability."
Parents, staff and pupils are currently fighting a campaign to save Beardwood after the council proposed to close it by 2012.
