NURSING home bosses have apologised after elderly residents were left without hot water for days.
The plumbing problems at the Old Gates Nursing Home in Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn, began at the end last week after work was carried out to water tanks.
The home, owned by private health company Bupa, was having the work done to meet health and safety requirements.
A complication arising from the work done meant that, since Friday, hot water was not available during most of the daytime when the kitchen and laundry were in use.
A relative of one elderly resident said: "This is totally unacceptable as the staff are having to fill jugs with hot water out of kettles which is both dangerous to staff and the residents, along with the possibility of cross infections.
"Why was an emergency plumber not found earlier?"
Vivienne Birch, BUPA care homes regional manager, said: "We would like to apologise to all our residents for the situation with the hot water.
"Due to some safety work being done to the water tanks, the temperature of the water has been affected at high demand times.
"Engineers are working around the clock. Old Gates comprises three separate houses offering residential, nursing, and residential dementia care.
