A MAN escaped the police after he climbed on to a roof and threw tiles at pursuing officers.
After receiving reports of a man damaging cars in Branch Road, Lower Darwen, at midnight yesterday, police ‘identified a man they wanted to speak with’, a police spokesman said.
But the man evaded capture by entering a home in nearby Bolton Road, Ewood, and climbing on to the roof.
The spokesman said: “He started to throw tiles at officers. A cordon was put into place and negotiations began but he refused to come down.”
Firefighters from Blackburn Fire Station attended the scene with a ladder at around 12.30am but left at 3am after the man refused to come down.
Uniformed patrols left the area but ‘discrete observations’ continued, the spokesman added.
The man made his escape when officers were stood down at 5am.
