TWIN Valley homes are to give £1,000 to the Friends of Roe Lee Park as part of building a 14-home social housing development at Pearl Street, Little Harwood.
They agreed to make the gift as Blackburn with Darwen borough planning committee gave the green light for the project.
The new properties will be on the site of the former Brookside Nursing Home, closed in 2009, which will be demolished.
The development will consist of a mix of two, three and four bedroomed houses, all ‘affordable’ family homes.
One of the conditions of the planning approval was a £16,800 payment to the borough council to provide and maintain open space for children to play on nearby.
Roe Lee Coun Phil Riley successfully persuaded the committee and Twin Valley homes to pay £1,000 of that sum to the friends of the park.
He said: “The Friends of Roe Lee Park are a reputable organisation who deserve and need the money.
“They will use it to develop and maintain an open play area for children on the park which is just a few hundred yards from the proposed development.
“This was an obvious thing to do with the money. I am delighted to secure this cash for the friends and to help ensure that local children can continue to play in the park safely.”
