ROGUE riders who have been running rampant in Burnley and Padiham could face losing their mini-moto bikes – and even their homes.

Neighbourhood police in the west of the borough have teamed up with housing landlords Calico to pilot a fresh approach to the motorcycling menace.

Bikers caught using parkland and canal towpaths have always faced seeing their prized rides being confiscated and crushed.

But police and housing bosses are now warning that anti-social riders could face losing their tenancies, if they have a property with the borough landlord.

Patrols have already focused on areas of Rosegrove and Lowerhouse and there have been a number of recorded seizures.

But Padiham Greenway – the newly-created public pathway along the line of the former Rosegrove to Padiham railway – has been another favourite target.

Town councillors have also complained about recent incidents of bikes using the route, which is a favourite with runners and cyclists.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “Anyone caught using motorbikes anti-socially could end up having their bikes seized and could face prosecution for the offences identified.

“Offenders who live in Calico houses could also be putting their tenancy at risk.”

Just last month a similar police initiative in the Rosegrove and Lowerhouse area saw around 10 mini-motos and other bikes destroyed at Wards garage in Gannow Lane, after a week-long crackdown.
