A STREET has been left without phone or internet access for nearly a month.

Fed-up residents in Hollins Lane, Accrington, say they have been trying to get back online and have their phone service restored since gas works took place in the street at the end of March.

Residents say they lost phone and broadband access when work, being carried out by National Grid on the lane, near to Royds Street, led to cables being accidentally cut while gas pipes were replaced.

Neighbours said they were told phone line suppliers would be responsible for replacing the 200 metres of damaged cable, but the problem remains unresolved.

Hollins Lane resident Steven McLoughlin said: “Ever since they did the gas works, the internet and phone have been on the blink.

"It’s been weeks now and I was told the repairs would be done by now but we are still waiting they seem to just keep passing the buck.”

One resident said: “Attempts to speak to BT Openreach directly have resulted in them refusing to discuss the matter with consumers, instead telling them to complain through their suppliers.

“But the suppliers say they are powerless to do anything. Residents are angry at the length of time it is taking to resolve the issue and the lack of action.”

Another resident Marleah Brown said: “I hardly use my landline, so I didn’t even notice it wasn’t working until the past week.

“Nobody had informed me of a problem so I actually went out and bought a new phone before realising the fault was with the line.”

A BT spokeswoman said their lines are unaffected and maybe another provider owns those lines.
