BURNLEY Council has received £43,000 of Heritage Lottery Funding to launch a heritage project capturing memories of the town.
The Back to the Future project aims to preserve and capture memories and stories to ensure that an important part of the towns heritage will not be lost, placing an emphasis on pride and belonging, whilst breaking down barriers between the young and old of the town.
The project is also designed to acknowledge the contributions of the older adult, promoting tolerance, respect and understanding.
Alexis Walker, project co-ordinator, said: “We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident that the project will provide a positive and productive educational experience.
“With many social benefits and opportunities, it will help develop a sense of pride, appreciation and cohesion with all involved.”
The group is on the hunt for people to share their memories of events from recent history.
Alexis said: “We are also looking for volunteers, if anyone wishes to get involved we are particularly looking for people to share their stories and memories of the Second World War.”
For more information about the project, or to volunteer, contact Alexis Walker on awalker@burnley.gov.uk, or call 01282 477127.
