TWO hundred people will take part in a Three Towers Trek, leaving from Darwen Tower next month.
The 34-mile sponsored walk is in memory of Blackburn builder Anthony Ainsworth, who spent 20 years looking for the last moors murder victim, Keith Bennett.
His son, Ian Ainsworth, 42, from the Livesey area, has organised the event for May 26 — three days before the second anniversary of Anthony’s death from a heart attack.
Ian, also a builder, said: “Years ago my dad did a similar walk from Blackburn for charity, and I thought it would be nice to do this in his memory.
"I’ve lengthened the course though, and added in the three towers of Darwen, Hoghton, and Blackpool, for a bit of interest.”
The trek costs £10 to enter, with all money going to the Miles of Smiles charity of Leyland, which provides treats for deserving youngsters.
Anthony, who lived in the Shear Brow area, became interested in finding the body of 12-year-old Keith Bennett after watching a documentary on his mum Winnie Johnson.
Ian hopes to publish a book of his dad’s research when the walk has been completed.
