BLACKBURN with Darwen Council has asked users of Darwen Moor to respect the area, after a rusty ‘nail trap’ was found in a popular cycling area.
Peter Riley, 48, of Chorley, found the plank with nails sticking out, dug into the ground, after his friend picked up a double puncture at grid reference 678209.
Sayyed Osman, director of environment, housing and neighbourhoods at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “Our maintenance programme on Darwen Moor is aimed at keeping rights of way open and accessible to appropriate users.
“We cannot police these areas nor be accountable for debris left by other users.
“We do efficiently tackle issues that are brought to our attention.
“We are fortunate to have a fantastic natural environment like Darwen Moor on our doorstep.
“It enhances quality of life for people who use it for recreation such as walking or cycling.
“We do expect users to show respect and take responsibility for their actions, and to leave this natural environment as you would expect to find it.”
