A YOUNG motorist who was killed in a collision at Bull Hill, Darwen, yesterday has been named.
Jack Eatock, 26, from Astley, in Greater Manchester, died after his vehicle struck a barrier and dry stone wall on the A666 Bolton Road, near Cadshaw Cottages, at around 2.50am.
Paramedics went to the scene but the motorist, who had left Bolton Road Shell garage just moments before, died at the scene.
Sgt Mick Young, from Lancashire Police’s road traffic unit, is now appealing for witnesses to the collision, which led to the road being closed four-and-a-half hours.
He said: “We know that the vehicle has come into Darwen and visited the 24-hour garage and then come back along the A666.
“We are looking for witnesses who may seen anything, including the manner of the BMW’s driving, from Mayfield flats to Cadshaw Cottages.”
The latest incident is the second serious crash along this stretch of the A666 in just under six months.
Three people lost their lives at Bull Hill, around a mile away, when a red Peugeot car crashed into a lamp-post and flipped onto its roof near the Ocean Palace restaurant.
Witnesses to the latest incident are asked to contact Sgt Young on the new police non-emergency number, 101.
