HASLINGDEN Health Centre is to undergo a £1.5million revamp.

NHS East Lancashire is planning on transforming and extending the current premises in Manchester Road into a modern, fit for purpose health centre.

The health centre will be one of the primary care trust’s (PCTs) most energy efficient buildings, when it is fitted with solar panels on the roof so it can generate its own electricity.

David Peers, Associate Director of Estates and Facilities at NHS East Lancashire, said: “This scheme represents the latest investment project aimed at bringing the primary care trust’s premises up to modern day standards, and follows similar schemes at Waterfoot and Clitheroe.

“The work will not only see extra GP consulting rooms created but all existing GP consulting rooms will be completely refurbished and will also allow for the addition of a minor operations room.”

The Community reception which is currently located on the first floor will be moved to the ground floor extension along with treatment room services and podiatry.

Dr Tom Mackenzie, GP at Haslingden Health Centre, said: “Ensuring that our patients have access to high quality, safe and effective health care is our main focus as doctors and clinicians, but with growing demand and increasingly limited budgets, this is becoming much more challenging.

“It is excellent news that the PCT has committed to this work especially in a time of NHS reorganisation and limited resources.

"These improvements will provide a much better environment to both patients and staff with benefits for years to come.”

The health centre will remain open whilst the building works are taking place.
