BAKERS are celebrating a sweet success in their attempt to break the Guiness World Record for the world’s largest pudding.

The sticky toffee pudding created by Clitheroe’s Farmhouse Fare, is the size of the average office desk and is wrapped in an eight foot cardboard sleeve.

At 334kg, the specialist pudding makers are quietly confident they have beaten the current 200kg record and will enter the record books when Guiness World Record verifies the pudding as the world’s largest this week.

The team made the baking day an extra special event by allowing people to look on as they created the pudding at their Salthill Industrial Estate base on Saturday.

Preparation for the feat involved having specialist tins made and a large oven converted and turned on it’s side to create more room for the sticky treat.

The recipe included 220 eggs and enough flour to bake 2,300 loaves of bread. It contains so many calories that if eaten by one person, they would have to run 520 marathons or run half way around the world, to burn them off.

The company is to split the record breaking pud into 3,180 portions to be sold in Booths in Clitheroe and Garstang in aid of McMillan Cancer Support.

Farmhouse Fare founder Helen Colley said: “It was such an amazing day. Everyone got involved and we had refreshments for people who joined in.

“I have been baking puddings for years and to be involved in the making of the world’s largest pudding was incredible.

“We’ve always supported McMillan and this was the best way to raise money yet.”

The pudding portions go on sale in Booths Clitheroe from Sunday and at Booths Garstang from Saturday in aid of McMillan Cancer Support.
