A BUSINESSMAN has been fined £865 for fly-tipping.
Haroun Patel, of Navigation Way, Blackburn, was prosecuted at Blackburn Magistrates Court after bin bags of rubbish from his business were found dumped in bushes in Challenge Way, Blackburn.
Mr Patel was charged with failing to comply with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Evidence recovered from the scene pointed to Mr Patel’s firm, Trade Smart Upholstery. During an interview he admitted giving the rubbish to some of his family.
The court also heard an arrangement has now been set up to dispose of rubbish from the business in the correct manner.
Mr Patel was fined £450, ordered to pay £400 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
Councillor Faryad Hussain, executive member for environmental improvement and sustainability for Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “As a responsible business owner, you have a duty of care to ensure rubbish from your business is disposed of in the correct manner.”
