A BURNLEY nightclub has become the latest to apply to extend its opening hours.

Posh nightclub, which is in the former Yorke House, in Ormerod Street, has applied to Burnley Borough Council to extend its opening hours until 3.30am every day of the week.

And the club, run by local DJ Mick Cookson, wants to open 4.30am on Sunday’s before Bank Holiday’s.

Consultations on the application are currently taking place before licensing officers at Burnley Council will make a final decision.

Coun Peter Doyle, leader of the Conservative party in Burnley Council, said: “Personally I would rely on the police to advise us if it is going to cause a problem.

“We should take advice from them and then make a decision on the application.”

Lancashire Police’s licensing team will be consulted on the application and will make representations to Burnley Council on their thoughts.

Mr Cookson has owned Posh since 2003, having run nightclubs in the town since the early 90s.

He first opened Panama Joe’s, and then Mean Cat Caddies upstairs from Panama Joe’s, before selling in 2000. Those clubs are now Lava and Ignite.

If the application was granted it would not be the latest opening in Burnley town centre, with Lava and Ignite open until 4.30am at the weekends.
