HYNDBURN Council has updated its equality rules.
The council was last year rated as ‘achieving’ excellence in providing an equal service and aims to work up to an ‘excellence’ rating by 2013.
The council has now replaced its equality assessment procedures with a more straightforward and simplistic review of their progress.
A new report on the issue says: “Equality considerations underpin practically all the work we do.
“As a public authority, it is our duty to try our best to ensure that our resources are allocated fairly, based on the needs of our customers and our community.
“We need to ensure that we are not unwittingly discriminating by doing something that disadvantages to benefit one group of people over another.”
