A FAMILY is set to pay an energy-sapping tribute to a brave Pendle teenager on what would have been her 18th birthday.

Chloe Oldfield, from Barnoldswick, 16, defied doctors to secure two top-grade GCSEs despite receiving chemotherapy for a rare form of liver cancer.

But the former Skipton High student lost her battle with heptacellular carcinoma in February 2010.

Next weekend she would have celebrated her 18th birthday, and her relatives are embarking on a 170-mile coast-to-coast in aid of Bosom Friends.

Her mother, Catherine Oldfield, will be joined by Chloe’s aunt, Sharon Hurst, who will be riding her niece’s old bike.

Ever since she died her parents and brother, Henry, have raised funds for Chloe’s Chosen Charities, collecting more than £6,000.

Sharon said: “We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends – one of Chloe’s chosen charities. Chloe was helped and supported by a number of charities during her illness, and she was keen they be recognised after he death.”

The pair will be joined by friends Lorna Hargreaves, Anita Emmott and Kate Hartley for the ride, which will take place between Lancaster and Bridlington, starting on Thursday.

Bosom Friends was involved in setting up a surprise 15th birthday party for Chloe, who was first diagnosed with cancer in 2007.
