A SIXTIES pop icon has given his seal of approval to a piece of fan art sent by a devoted follower more than 45 years ago.

Artwork dedicated to The Crying Game singer Dave Berry, is on show at Burnley’s Towneley Hall.

And while taking a break from touring, Dave visited the historic Burnley landmark to catch a popular exhibition which has captured musical memories.

Dave used the artwork, by by Judy Trafford, nee Eggleton, in his 2010 autobiography, All There Is To Know, and launched an appeal through the Lancashire Telegraph to trace Judy.

Mother-of-two Judy, who now lives in Scarborough, came forward and the pair met up while he was on tour.

And now the singer has come face-to-face with the intricate illustrations penned by the former Nelson Grammar School student, who used to live in Every Street.

Dave said: “It’s great to see the artwork up close.

“I always treasured these envelopes and letters. They were really iconic to me.”

In an e-mail to Dave’s management, Judy added: “It was great to hear that the exhibition at Towneley Hall is going ahead.

"I had forgotten all about it. My last visit there was on a school trip.”

Judy, now 63, first saw Dave when he performed at the former Nelson Imp and went on to follow him at concerts around Lancashire.

The singer still performs with his former band, The Cruisers, and regularly appears alongside The Manfreds, and The Dakotas, on tour.

Dave is set to appear at Devon’s Torrington music festival and at the Henley-in-Arden Festival, in Warwickshire, later this month.
