A BLIND man was robbed in a subway by "despicable" thugs.
And a police sergeant today spoke of his shock at the robbery in Burnley town centre and said he could not believe people could stoop so low.
The 39-year-old victim was threatened with violence as he walked along the underpass in Centenary Way, leading from the town's bus station to Gala Bingo.
Police said two men stopped the victim and threatened him, before stealing his wallet containing cash.
The incident happened between 11pm and 11.30pm on Saturday. The victim was not injured but left feeling shocked.
He contacted the police shortly after the incident.
Burnley Sergeant Andy Eddleston said: "Because this man is blind it is a despicable offence.
"I can't believe that people will actually stoop so low.
"The two men threatened a vulnerable, blind person with violence before stealing money from him.
"They then made off. We don't know which direction they ran off in but the underpass leads out onto Centenary Way.
"Fortunately the man was not injured."
Sgt Eddleston appealed for any witnesses who were in the area to come forward.
He added: "If anybody was in the area at the time and spotted anyone suspicious hanging around the area either before of after it happened then we want to hear from them."
