FIFTEEN firefighters were needed to drag a horse out of a beck in Clitheroe last night.

Crews from Clitheroe, Nelson and St Annes, which specialises in rope rescues, were called out by a farmer after the female animal strayed off land at a farm in Ribble Way, Clitheroe, and became stuck.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “The horse was stuck in the water and we managed to drag it to the banking.

“Then we got some sheeting underneath it and dragged it up a steeper bank where a vet wrapped it in a blanket to keep it warm.”

The condition of the horse is still being assessed.
