A retail park in Pendle has received a significant boost with the expected arrival of a major furniture chain.

Beds and sofas giant DFS is understood to be in advanced talks over two units at the Boundary Retail Park in Colne.

Plans have been submitted to Pendle Council for an internal refit of units C and D at the Corporation Street shopping centre.

And the firm is recruiting for several new posts, including openings for managers, salespeople, upholsterers, drivers and warehouse staff.

Coun Joe Cooney, of Colne’s Vivary Bridge ward, said: “It is good news to bring a national retailer like DFS to the town.

“And hopefully this will act as a catalyst for other premises on the retail park.”

Earlier this year bosses at Marks and Spencers closed down their outlet store at the retail park, preferring to stick with a concession at the nearby Boundary Mill.

The second unit, adjacent to Argos Extra and Next, has been empty and on the market for some time. Eighty jobs could also be created if plans to split the former Boundary Mill complex, next to Asda nearby, are successful.

Possible tenants including the discount chain B&M Bargains and Pets At Home have been suggested for the development.

Currently the Doncaster-based firm’s nearest stores to East Lancashire are located in Preston and Bradford.

Bosses at the company were unavailable for comment yesterday.
