A WOMAN who was rescued from a house fire in Padiham is still in a critical condition.
Margaret Jackson, 55, was found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom at her semi-detached house in Windermere Road on Sunday night.
The blaze started in the downstairs front living room.
Thick black smoke could be seen pouring out of the windows, and attempts by neighbours to get into the property were beaten back by flames and fumes.
Fire investigators say it is ‘highly likely’ the cause is accidental, but they are still examining the scene with the help of police forensic experts.
Ms Jackson was admitted to Royal Blackburn Hospital with severe lung trauma from smoke inhalation and a hospital spokesman said she remains on the critical care ward.
