A FIRE was started inside a former bar in Blackburn town centre early this morning.

The empty North Bar building in Town Hall Street, was broken into and set alight just after 3am.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus to enter the premises, ventilation, lighting and a hose reel to tackle the fire.

They said it had been started by somebody burning a small pile of rubbish on the wooden floor inside.

There was some smoke damage.

A passer-by had seen the smoke and called 999.
