GETTING “oven ready” to roll is Ramsbottom man Josh Fleming who is to hit the UK’s outdoor events circuit with his new business.

He and friend Nick Stuart will travel the country along with their portable Spud of the Earth marquee and oven.

They will be providing festival and other outside events visitors with jacket potatoes which will be cooked and served on-site.

Former university student Josh, aged 21, who lives in Bolton Road West, Holcombe Brook, said: “For the past two summers I’d been helping manage a catering unit for a pie company. Myself and Nick travelled around festivals and the like and that gave us an insight into what was involved.

“We then decided we’d do something like this ourselves. We saw a business sale on eBay and brought it. Basically, we paid £5,000 for the marquee and the oven. All the equipment has been rebranded to reflect our own Spud of the Earth name.”

With jacket potato stalls proving popular at all sorts of outdoor events, Josh and Nick are eager to clock up the miles to bring in the money.

“So far, we’ve three dates booked and we’ve got others pending. It’s a matter of applying as early as possible for our pitches,” said Josh. “We will mainly attend weekend events but will be willing to work more than that a week.

"It’s a matter of hiring a van and putting all the stuff in the back.

“We’re looking at events such as music and arts festivals, horse shows, sports events and others.

"We will pride ourselves on high standards of our products and will be updating our menu.”

Josh added: “I’m happy to work during the summer and do some travelling the rest of the time.

"I plan to work in a ski resort in the Canadian Rockies next winter.”
