AN EAGLE-eyed police officer discovered £1,000 of suspected amphetamine after stopping a car in Accrington.

The officer stopped the car, a black Renault Clio in Abbey Street on the morning of Friday, July 8, and found four ounces of the drug.

Officers also found white powder and drug paraphernalia during a subsequent search of two addresses in Richmond Hill Street, Accrington and The Grove, Oswaldtwistle.

A 33-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply amphetamine and were released from police custody pending further forensic inquiries.

DI Simon Upton said: “Tacking drugs is a key priority for the police and we will continue to do all we can to remove them and the misery they cause from our streets.

“I urge anyone with information about drugs to contact us so we can take action.”
