A MAN was found collapsed in the road by a passing fire service crew.

The man, named as Robert Fisher and believed to be in his late thirties, was discovered on Sunday evening close to the Anchor pub, Blackburn Road, Darwen.

His friends told the emergency services that he had not had a lot to drink.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We were on our way back from a home fire safety visit when we saw this man collapsed to the side of the road.

“Apparently he had just been to get a sandwich and then gone over on his way back.

“He was drifting in and out of consciousness and had suffered head injuries in the fall.

“We were concerned for him so called paramedics who took him to hospital.”
