TAUHEEDUL Islam Girls’ school clinched gold at the annual Blackburn College Sixth Form quiz.
Years nine and ten pupils from six high schools competed for the first prize of £1,000 in the University Challenge style event hosted by lecturer David Jones.
After two days of knock out rounds, Tauheedal took the trophy after a nail-biting final against Witton Park High School.
David Jones, lecturer in History and Gifted and Talented coordinator, said: “The final was the closest one we have ever seen. It could have gone to either team but the girls from Tauheedul jumped in with seconds to spare.
“The questions asked were on a variety of subjects from science to completing the missing part of songs, so the teams really had to know their stuff."
Humeirah Ougradar, team captain, said: “We were delighted to win gold."
