SIX Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) will be out on the streets of Hyndburn by October.
The officers will be in place thanks to an initiative between Hyndburn Council and Accrington police.
The posts are being funded by the council as part of its commitment to improve public safety.
Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: "This is an important development, as people have been telling us they want to feel safer on our streets.
"We are determined to make that happen, and these six officers being seen right across the borough will certainly play a huge part in that."
He added: "The appointment of PCSOs was a big part of our budget for safety which includes extending the use of CCTV cameras in the borough, investing more than £200,000 in cameras and developing a modern control centre to make people feel safer on our streets."
Insp Woods said: "I am pleased we are recruiting extra PCSOs for Hyndburn to help with local issues.
"I'm keen to recruit local people to work in these roles so they can serve their own communities."
