CHORLEY Athletic Club sprinter Graeme Ballard thought that he had won the silver medal in the 100m at the International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships.

But now the race will have to be re-run after an objection by his own team!

Ballard is in Assen, Holland, with the rest of the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team.

The cerebral palsy sufferer is a seasoned international and won a bronze medal in the 200m at the 2004 Athens Paralympics in the T36 class.

The controversy in the World Championships arose after 18-year-old British sprinter Ben Rushgrove was disqualified for a false start.

His appeal was successful and the jury instead disqualified the Greek runner Panagiotis Manetas who had crossed the line in sixth.

Now the final will have to be run again later in the championships with Rushgrove, who broke the European record in his semi-final, instead of Manetas.
