A JEALOUS teenager from Nelson twice attacked his girlfriend and "trashed" her bedroom because he thought she was seeing someone else, a court heard.

Ashley Moorhouse, 19, who had earlier slapped the 17-year-old victim, put his hands around her throat after the pair spent the night together a week later and she kicked him out the next day, Burnley magistrates heard.

Moorhouse, of Derby Street, Nelson, admitted two counts of assault and one of damage.

He was given a community order with 12 months supervision and told to pay £120 compensation.

Sue Campbell, prosecuting, said that the defendant and victim had been dating for about eight months and the relationship had become increasingly turbulent.

Lee Hammond, defending, said the relationship was volatile and violence was used by both parties.

He said that it was both the defendant and victim's first serious relationship and both of them were immature in a conflict situation.

Problems started when they moved in together and Moorhouse suspected she was seeing someone else.

Mr Hammond continued: "He was extremely upset.

"He slept with her and then she kicked him out the following morning.

"He felt extremely upset and emotionally manipulated."
