A STOLEN BMW was last night involved in two collisions following a spate of house burglaries.

The car was spotted by two officers in an unmarked police vehicle as it travelled along Charter Street towards Pickup Street, Accrington where it collided with a wall.

A marked police car arrived on the scene and pulled alongside the BMW, with the officer asking the driver to get out.

However the driver made off at high speed before colliding head-on with another driver on Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.

The BMW had collided with a Toyota Yaris being driven by a 30-year-old woman who fractured her leg in the crash.

Police said she was fortunate not to have suffered a more serious injury.

They said the collision occured a day after a spate of house burglaries in Accrington.

The driver of the BMW, a 43-year-old Accrington man, was arrested at the scene uninjured.

He has been arrested on suspicion of burglary dwelling and theft.
