CHILDREN from across the North West flocked to Burnley for an event aimed at encouraging youngsters to walk or cycle to school.

The Sustrans School Travel Action Day involved primary and high school pupils and was held at the Towneley Park City Learning Centre on Monday, July 4.

Shuttleworth College teacher Andy Stubbs said: “Cycling is a popular part of the curriculum.

“We have actively promoted cycling to college and we have seen growing cycle use.”

County Councillor Tim Ashton, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Burnley and Padiham have a growing network of cycle paths including the Padiham Greenway and links to schools.”
